What Is Peruvian Shamanism?

The Q’ero, known as the last direct descendants of the Inca, preserve ancient Andean wisdom through a life of deep communion with the Apus and Pachamama, centered on their philosophy of Circular Life and sacred healing rituals.

What Is Peruvian Shamanism?

A living wisdom from the Andes and the Amazon

Peruvian shamanism is an ancient way of understanding life.
It is not a religion, and it is not a trend.
It is a path of connection with nature, spirit, and the human heart.

In Peru, this wisdom lives in two great worlds:

  • The Andes, where the Q’ero people work with Pachamama (Mother Earth) and the Apus (mountain spirits).

  • The Amazon, where shamans and healers work with sacred plants, icaros (medicine songs), and forest spirits.

At Memory Q’ero, both traditions are honored as one living spiritual path:
everything is alive, and everything has spirit.

What does a shaman do?

A shaman is not a magician or a priest.
A shaman is someone who has learned to listen to nature and the spirit world.

Their role is to:

  • See what is hidden

  • Feel what is out of balance

  • Help people restore harmony

Illness, emotional pain, or confusion are not just physical problems.
They are signs that the soul has become disconnected.
The shaman helps bring it back.

Icaros: the songs that heal

In the Peruvian Amazon, shamans use sacred songs called icaros.

These songs are not learned from books.
They are taught directly by the spirits of the plants.

Every plant has its own icaro.
Every spirit has its own vibration.

When a shaman sings:

  • Spirits are called

  • Energy is cleansed

  • Protection is created

  • The medicine is activated

An icaro is not music.
It is healing energy moving through sound.

Sacred plant medicines: teachers, not drugs

In Amazonian shamanism, plants are not used to escape reality.
They are used to learn, heal, and remember who we truly are.

Some of the most important plant medicines are:

Ayahuasca
Opens consciousness and reveals what is hidden within.

Mapacho (sacred tobacco)
Protects, cleans, and strengthens the energy field.

Sananga
Brings clarity, both physical and spiritual.

These are called teacher plants, because they teach.
They are always used with respect and guidance.

The Andean connection: the wisdom of the Q’ero

The Q’ero masters of the Andes work with:

  • Pachamama (Mother Earth)

  • The Apus (sacred mountains)

  • Cosmic and natural energies

They do not work with strong plant medicines like ayahuasca, but they work deeply with energy, ceremony, and intention.

The Amazon works through plants.
The Andes work through the Earth.

But both seek the same goal:
to heal the human soul and restore harmony.

This is the path that Memory Q’ero honors.

Why is Peruvian shamanism calling the world?

Because modern life has disconnected us from:

  • Nature

  • Silence

  • Our own hearts

People are not just looking for experiences.
They are looking to feel whole again.

Peruvian shamanism does not promise miracles.
It offers something deeper:
a return to balance, spirit, and the living Earth.
